Overview

The Local e-Democracy National project was set up with funding from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) to help local authorities exploit the potential of new technologies for democratic renewal. Professor Stephen Coleman was commissioned to evaluate the successes and failures of local authorities in facilitating ground-up, citizen-led approaches to e-democracy. The resulting report ‘From the Ground Up’ considered how authorities have tried to harness the power of new communication technologies to create and stimulate new forms of ‘civic space’.
