Dr Kathryn Eccles
Associate Professor, Senior Research Fellow
Kathryn Eccles has research interests in the impact of new technologies on Humanities scholarship, and the re-organisation of cultural heritage and higher education in the digital world.
Roland is a doctoral student and artist. His thesis is an investigation into how self-tracking wearables, specifically Apple Watches, influence our relationship with nature when we take these devices into the outdoors.
Using qualitative methods, he tries to understand the lived, intersectional experience of technology. His research interests are related to technology as culture (and vice versa), posthuman/postphenomenological interpretations of technology, and artistic expression as scholarship.
Roland received his BA in Applied Mathematics and Visual Arts from Columbia University, then received an MSc in Social Science of the Internet from the OII. In his spare time, Roland enjoys cooking, making, surfing, and diving. If you would like to get in touch, please reach out @ roland.chen@oii.ox.ac.uk
