About
Flavia is a PhD Candidate in Sociology of Technology at the University of Cambridge, a Student Fellow at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, and a Recognised Student in Social Data Science at the Oxford Internet Institute. Her research focuses on how AI and data-driven technologies – such as reporting platforms, chatbots, safety apps, CCTV, and predictive policing – reconfigure sociotechnical imaginaries of women’s safety. Drawing on feminist AI and data ethics as well as human-computer interaction, Flavia analyses the ethical and societal implications of technological interventions aimed at addressing violence against women.
Her work integrates qualitative research, social theory, and social data science to contribute to the design and deployment of ethical AI and data systems that promote social justice and gender equality.
In addition, Flavia has experience in the FemTech startup space, venture capital, and NGOs, where she has worked on product research, technological development, and supporting innovation in women’s health and safety.
She holds a BA in Media and Communications and Business Administration from the University of Mannheim and an MPhil in the Sociology of Media and Culture from the University of Cambridge. Her research is generously funded by the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung and Sidney Sussex College, University of Cambridge.
