Overview

By building a classification project accompanied by educational tools for the Gorongosa Lion Project we will improve our understanding of how rich interactions which go beyond simple classification can contribute to the production of scientific data; this will contribute to research publications in the citizen science, computer science and social science literature as well as to research enabled by the classifications themselves. A particular focus of this research program will be the behaviour of volunteers working in groups instead of individually, something that has not hitherto been tried for large-scale image classification platforms. Tools produced through this work will extend both the capabilities of the Zooniverse platform and our understanding of how it works as a research tool.
