Valerie Wu is a graduate from the University of Southern California, where she studied Narrative Studies and Law, History, and Culture, minoring in Cinematic Arts. Her academic coursework at USC primarily revolved around evaluating representations of race, gender and nationality through creative mediums such as novels and films. At Glimpse from the Globe, a USC digital international affairs publication, she wrote about topics in cultural diplomacy and technology. Valerie has also conducted media and entertainment research at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and, most recently, worked in features and TV creative development at Sony Pictures Animation.
At the OII, Valerie is interested in exploring generative artificial intelligence and its relationships with global tech policy and digital culture. She is particularly invested in the racialisation of AI and its impacts on international affairs and society.
