Former Research Associate

About

I was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. I received my BSc in Sociology and MSc in Political Science from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. I completed my PhD at the Sociology Department of the University of Kent.

To date, my interest led me to three lines of research:

  • dissemination and impacts of conspiracy theories and anti-Semitism;
  • influence of Emile Durkheim’s theory on Turkish nationalism;
  • teaching sociology by using cartoons.

I have published my work on conspiracy rhetoric in various academic journals including The British Journal of Sociology. On anti-Semitism, I published a book by Palgrave MacMillan, Online Anti-Semitism in Turkey and various journal articles.

Research Interests

Political communication, conspiracy theories, Turkish politics, ethnic and religious hostility.
