Teo is an MSc candidate in the Social Science of the Internet and a recipient of the OII Shirley Scholarship. His research addresses how algorithms impact society, applying data science and computational techniques to contemporary privacy and AI governance challenges.
With a background in digital anthropology, he is passionate about aligning AI systems with human values and ensuring oversight is maintained in their development and deployment. Prior to his MSc, he was a Research Assistant at the OII’s Synthetic Society Lab where he examined the sociotechnical risks posed by the large-scale implementation of biometric identification systems.
Teo holds a BA in Anthropology from Goldsmiths, University of London. His MSc research is funded by the Shirley Scholars Fund, Crankstart, and the Masonic Charitable Foundation.
