About

Steve has extensive experience of digital regulation and public policy.  For 15 years he worked for the UK Data Protection and Freedom of Information Regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office.  For the final six years he was Deputy Commissioner, leading on policy and strategy.  In this role he oversaw the development of the ICO’s Age Appropriate Design Code, a key global development in regulating children’s data online.

Steve also chaired the OECD Working Party on Data Governance and Privacy between 2019 and 2022.

Since leaving the ICO Steve has founded PrivacyX Consulting, to deliver solutions on complex and novel data protection challenges and opportunities.

Steve has also worked for HM Treasury and was previously a senior lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University.
