Sara is dedicated to the ethical development and application of AI. Drawing on economics, post-colonial theory, and computer science, she aims to understand how major companies influence emerging tech industries and how they could do it sustainably. Previously, she studied information ecosystems and social media discourse at McGill University, leading studies on the political discourse of hate speech detection, coverage of the Russian-Ukrainian war on TikTok, and the effects of Meta’s decision to end news availability on its platforms for Canadian users. Her work has been published in various venues, such as the Proceedings of the National Academy of the Sciences and the Conversation, as well as featured in articles from the Canadian Press, BBC, and Reuters, among others.
