About

Ryan is a DPhil student in Social Data Science at the OII. His research focuses on enhancing fairness in AI systems, particularly in high-stakes environments. He employs a range of computational techniques, including deep learning and uncertainty quantification, to address ethical challenges in AI. His work aims to develop more robust and equitable AI systems that can be reliably deployed in critical domains.

Ryan holds an MS in Data Science from UC Berkeley and a BA from the University of Chicago, where he focused on computational social science and spatial econometrics. As the head of data science at Origin Investments, he led the development of ML solutions that optimized financial decision-making while prioritizing transparency.

Research Interests

Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Ethics in Artificial Intelligence, Fairness in Machine Learning, Explainable Artificial Intelligence.
