This programme supports research on AI, Government and Policy.
Huw Roberts is a doctoral researcher at the University of Oxford’s Internet Institute and an Associate Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI). His research focuses on international AI governance efforts, with a particular emphasis on standards development organisations. Huw’s research has been published in various academic journals, including International Affairs, Internet Policy Review, and The Information Society. His research and commentary have appeared in, among others, The Financial Times, The Times, and Politico.
Huw previously worked for the UK Government where he was involved in developing key AI policy documents, like the country’s National AI Strategy. He has also worked on AI policy as a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School, a Tech Policy Fellow at the Tony Blair Institute, and as an independent consultant advising regulators and international organisations. Huw holds graduate degrees from the University of Oxford’s Internet Institute and the Yenching Academy of Peking University.
He is supervised by Professors Luciano Floridi and Mariarosaria Taddeo and his research is generously funded by the ESRC Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership, as well as research grants from the ISO and Dieter Schwarz Foundation.
