About

Prior to studying at the OII, Emily worked as a Legal Process Manager at Automattic, where she advocated for free expression and user rights by pushing back on government overreach. She evaluated government content takedown requests and gained an intimate understanding of what free expression truly means in an increasingly polarized digital world. Emily holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Oregon, and is fascinated by the way power structures can be dismantled (or emboldened) by the Internet. She is interested in Internet democratization, preventing online censorship, and the governance of emerging technology.

Research Interests

Information Governance, Trust and Safety, Platform Transparency, Emerging Technology Governance, Content Moderation.
