About

Edgar Gómez is a doctoral student at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. His background is in Communication Studies and Sociology and he has being doing Internet Research since 1997, first in Mexico, then in Spain. His research focuses on the Computer Mediated Communication and Social Networks from the sociological point of view. He has published two books, both in Spanish: ‘Cybersex. the last frontier of Eros: An ethnographic study’ and ‘Internet Metaphors’.

His doctoral thesis is an ethnographic study of digital photography practices. He has being doing participant observation with a collective of Barcelona-based non-professional photographers, who are heavy users of the photography website flickr.com. He will carry out a comparative study with a similar group in Oxford.
