Alistair has 20 years’ experience in public policy, spanning thinks tanks, NGOs and industry. He currently works for RELX, an information and data analytics business that employs 35,000 people worldwide, where he leads the company’s engagement with governments and policymakers across multiple jurisdictions.
From 2023 to 2024 he was a member of the UK government’s AI and copyright code of practice working group that tried to resolve tensions between Generative AI developers and IP holders relating to use of IP-protected works in AI systems.
He served from 2019 to 2020 as the UK government’s approved co-chair of the India-UK JETCO working group on digital and data services which supported negotiations between the two countries for a prospective free trade agreement.
Earlier on his career (2008 to 2010) he was a member of the UK government’s EU business advisory group which provided advice to ministers on emerging EU policies relevant to the business community.
He holds degrees from University of St Andrews, University of Durham and University of Bristol.
