Philosophy meets Internet Engineering: Ethics in Networked Systems Research (Oxford)

Aim of the workshop

• An interdisciplinary-disciplinary approach will allow people from the different fields to educate each other and reflect on practices in order to further understanding
• To discuss and reflect on hypothetical scenarios of Internet engineering and research projects where ethical implications are unclear or complex.
• Inter-disciplinary reasoning will be supported by a draft set of ethical guidelines for networked systems research, which will be improved using the results of the workshop in preparation for the full day workshop on ethics in networked systems research at the ACM SIGCOMM 2015 Conference in London on 21 August 2015,
• Start the process of (voluntary) co-authorship for:
  • A conference paper,
  • A policy white paper,
  • Possible co-authorship of a peer-reviewed academic paper, to be commenced after the summer.
