Introducing the ICT4D Seminar Series! (Hilary, 2016)

This coming Hilary term, the ICT4D series will again engage leading scholars and practitioners in discussions focused on the intersection of big data and human development. Previous speakers have ranged from Diego Molano, the Minister of ICT of Colombia, to Michael Corey, the Population Scientist for Facebook’s Growth Team.

We are incredibly excited for the upcoming seminars, as our speakers will cover a series of pertinent topics, from cyberspace governance (Stefania Milan) to efforts to improve data resources in developing countries by actually mapping “vulnerable places” (Idriss Ait-Bouziad and Andrew Brayer). In our third seminar of the term, Dr. Max Roser will speak to the capacity of the web to make large datasets on human development available. Finally, in our last seminar of the term, Dr. Claudia Lopes and Dr. Sharath Srinivasan, will provide a case study in inclusive development through technology, media, and data analysis via Africa’s Voices Foundation.

Each seminar will take place on a Tuesday evening from 16:30 to 18:00 at the Oxford Internet Institute, 1 St Giles, Oxford, OX1 3JS.
