Business partnerships

At the Oxford Internet Institute, we work closely with partners to connect academic insight with real-world impact, co-creating research, developing talent, and building lasting partnerships that benefit business and society.

Fabian

Whether you are looking for clear, research-driven insight into emerging technologies, want to understand the capabilities and limits of AI systems, or hope to connect with the next generation of digital leaders, the OII offers a range of ways to collaborate.

We work across areas such as the future of work and skills, responsible AI, LLM evaluation, agentic AI, privacy-preserving data methods, transparency, fairness and accountability in digital systems, online identities, community dynamics, and healthy online behaviours, helping our partners navigate fast-moving fields with evidence and insight.

Ways to work with us

Research collaboration

We partner with businesses on research projects that explore key questions at the intersection of technology and society. These collaborations are grounded in academic independence and built around shared goals and areas of interest. We offer flexible contracting options, while typically retaining intellectual property and the freedom to publish findings.

Examples of recent research collaboration

Digital economy and consumer behaviour

OII faculty and doctoral researchers partnered with a financial services firm to explore how the internet is transforming producer–consumer relationships. Outputs included business insights, academic papers, and conference presentations.

AI explainability

An OII postdoctoral researcher collaborated with a global ICT company to examine effective approaches to AI explainability for deploying AI systems in diverse contexts. The work produced a white paper, journal article, and cross-sector conference reports.

Consulting services

Our researchers offer tailored consulting to help businesses navigate complex challenges. They provide evidence-based insights, strategic guidance, and practical solutions on issues ranging from AI governance and data ethics to platform regulation and the digital transformation of services. These engagements are often part of long-term partnerships, which are mutually beneficial, ensuring our research is grounded in real-world context.

Our courses respond to growing global demand for expert guidance on digital transformation, drawing on cutting-edge research and tailored for meaningful impact.

Recent programmes have included:

Core modules for early- and mid-career professionals, developing the next generation of Internet leaders committed to a secure, open, and trustworthy digital future.
  • Internet Leadership Academy
A Google-supported, invitation-only short course for global policy and thought leaders, fostering informed debate on key digital policy challenges.
  • United Arab Emirates
An intensive three-day, in-person programme for senior government and business leaders, focused on the strategic impacts of digital transformation.

Visiting policy fellowships

Our Visiting policy fellowship programme invites senior professionals from business, government, and civil society to spend time at OII, contributing to our research community while pursuing their own policy or industry-focused agenda. Over a two-year period, fellows join a vibrant intellectual community, participate in events, and produce public-facing outputs, such as white papers or reports, that inform and influence industry and policy debates.

Careers

The Oxford University Careers Service enables organisations to promote opportunities effectively and make contact with the most appropriate students. They offer a wide range of services to support organisations of all sizes at any stage of the recruitment process. You can get in touch with them directly by emailing recruiters@careers.ox.ac.uk.

The OII works in partnership with the Careers Service, and we also organise an industry speaker series for students.
