Regulating Code

Recorded:
26 Apr 2013

Internet use has become ubiquitous in the past two decades, but governments, legislators, and their regulatory agencies have struggled to keep up with rapidly changing Internet technologies and uses. In their groundbreaking book “Regulating Code”, Christopher Marsden and Ian Brown analyze the regulatory shaping of “code” — the technological environment of the Internet — to achieve more economically efficient and socially just regulation. Their recommended “prosumer law” approach would be designed to enhance the competitive production of public goods, including innovation, public safety, and fundamental democratic rights. In this seminar Dr Brown and Professor Marsden will set out the key conclusions of their book and discuss the route ahead for Internet regulation.
