Professor Kevin Doogan argues that technological change is not an autonomous process, which drives everything in its wake regardless of institutional, social or other aspects of life. The influence of technology on work and employment can not be understood as deterministic or mechanical and there are institutional limits to technological innovations. He goes on to argue that there are divergent trends on the one hand towards short-term casual on call work on the other increasing job stability.
