About

Young Mie Kim (Ph.D. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) is an Assistant Professor of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research program centres around ‘New Media and the Transformation of Democracy’, that is, how new communication technologies (e.g., the Internet, social media) and new formats of political media (e.g., political talk shows) contribute to the changing foundation of political communication. Her research has been published in Communication Research, Journal of Communication, Journal of Politics, among others. At the OII, Dr Kim will examine how latent ‘issue publics’ are emerged and organized for collective action in the new media environment, developing her theoretical model of public relevant to the new media environment.
