About

Terje Rasmussen is professor of media studies and digital media at the Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo. He has his degrees from University of Bergen and University of Oslo. He was a Visiting scholar at the University of Wollongong (2000-01). He is a board member of the strategic initiative at the University of Oslo: Competence and Media Convergence (CMC) (2003-2007). He is also a Contributing Editor to New Media and Society and Sosiologi i dag, co-founder of Norsk medietidsskrift, former Head of Department (1997-2000), and Head of the PhD program in Media studies at the University of Oslo (2003-2006). He has published five monographs and a number of other publications on digital media, the Internet, ethics and social theory.

As Visiting professor at OII he will work on working papers on the Internet Governance Forum, and on the everyday use of personal, network-oriented, Internet-based media.

Research Interests

Social and technical changes of the Internet, Internet governance, uses of the Internet in everyday life, ethics of the media, social theory.
