About

Estrella Hernandez studies the intersection of the right to privacy, free expression, and technology governance. She is especially interested in researching how international legal frameworks for shielding privacy rights are responding to the development of emerging technologies. Estrella also seeks to investigate the emergence and spread of cyber sovereignty-focused legal regimes worldwide.

Before studying at the Oxford Internet Institute, Estrella taught English in Taichung, Taiwan, as a Fulbright U.S. Student grantee. As an undergraduate, she interned at the British Embassy Washington, U.S. Department of Transportation, the East-West Center, and served as a summer research assistant.

Estrella graduated from the University of Chicago in June 2023. She holds a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, in Law, Letters & Society and Global Studies. Her senior thesis on student protest and legal reform in 1990s Taiwan earned the Asada Eiji BA Thesis Prize.
