About

Professor Olena Goroshko came to the OII on an Oxford Colleges Hospitality Scheme grant supported by the International Renaissance Soros Foundation. In the Ukraine, she is Head of the Cross-Cultural and Business Communication Department of the National Technical University (Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute). She received her PhD (1996) and Doctoral Degree (2001) from the Institute of Linguistics, Moscow, Russia, in ‘Theory of Linguistics’. Her professional interests include psycho- and sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, gender studies, forensic linguistics and distance education.

Her most recent book is Gender Aspects of Linguistic Consciousness (Moscow: Institute of Linguistics, 2003). She is a member of International Pragmatics Association (Antwerp, Belgium) and the International Psycholinguistics Association (Moscow, Russia).

At the OII Professor Goroshko focused on the development of a new course on Computer-mediated Communication, which would cover the nature of CMC, including the Internet, by examining its use and effects in interpersonal, work, educational, and societal contexts, and became particularly interested in the impact of the Internet on language, exploring concepts such as e-English and e-Russian.
