About

Dr Jin (BEng BA MEng PhD, HKBU) is currently an Associate Professor of the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University, China. Originally trained as an engineer with a BEng degree from Tsinghua University’s Department of Material Engineering, Dr Jin’s second degree in Chinese Literature and Editing converted him into a social scientist. He then completed his MEng of Management and went to Hong Kong Baptist University for his PhD in communication studies.

Dr Jin has conducted and advised several large-scale surveys ranging from urban household Internet adoption to the first Chinese blog survey. He is very active in the field of Internet-related communication studies and currently is a council member of the Beijing Association of Online Media; a council member of the Academic Committee of the Chinese Internet Editing Profession, Ministry of Labour as well as a special researcher of the Center of Computer-Mediated Communication, School of Journalism and Communication, Nanjing University.

Dr Jin’s research interest lies in the adoption, use and social effects of new media, communication theory and research methods, etc. He has published two books and a couple of research papers in the area of Internet studies.
