About

Deborah Wheeler teaches in the Jackson School of International Studies and the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Washington, Seattle, where she has held a Faculty Fellows position at the Center for Internet Studies since 1999. She has specialised in research on the development and impact of the Internet in the Islamic World, and at the OII focused on the lag in Internet use in the Middle East in comparison with other Muslim majority centres like Pakistan and Malaysia. Dr Wheeler holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Chicago. Her many recent publications include ‘Islam, Community and the Internet: New Possibilities in the Digital Age’, Berglund Center for Internet Studies Journal, March, 2002.
