About
Daniel’s work focuses on the use of digital technologies for teaching and learning in Higher Education.
Drawing on socio-technical theories and adopting a case study research design, his thesis addressed the manifold tensions and paradoxes that may emerge out of the interplay between a highly predefined model of Open Educational Resources (OER) provision and the everyday realities and organisational contexts of different universities.
During his time at Oxford he worked as Research Assistant at the OII and as courses teacher at IT Services, becoming an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). He also co-directed an international conference on Remix Cinema, funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and other organisations, and was part of the organising committee of Breaking Boundaries, a student-led series of seminars funded by the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) and held as a collaboration between the OII and the Department of Education.
In 2011-12 he won the Oxford-Santander Graduate Award. His DPhil was partially funded by a scholarship of the Regional Government of Andalusia (Spain) and he was able to conduct fieldwork and present at conferences thanks to the Carr & Stahl Fund (St Antony’s College), the Santander Academic Travel Award at Oxford and OII’s financial support.
Prior to coming to the OII he lectured at the University of Seville and worked at the International University of Andalusia (UNIA), where he was one of the founders of its Digital Practices & Cultures Programme and its Centre for Creation & Experimentation in Digital Content.
Daniel graduated in Media Studies from the University of Seville (Spain) in 2004 and holds a Masters in Educational Technologies from the Spanish National Distance University (UNED) among other postgraduate degrees.
