The University of Oxford’s Humanities Division is delighted to announce the appointment from 1 October 2014 of Dr Kathryn Eccles of the Oxford Internet Institute as Digital Humanities Champion. Kathryn, an OII Research Fellow who completed her DPhil in Modern History in 2007, will be seconded to play a leading role in developing the cross-University Digital Humanities strategy, advocating for Digital Humanities within the University and externally.

This new role will build on the University’s strengths in Digital Humanities to develop training provision for all career stages, and to embed digital practices and methodologies into Humanities teaching and research.

Kathryn said: “The University of Oxford has played a leading role in Digital Humanities from its origins as ‘Humanities Computing’ to its current multidisciplinary, collaborative and pedagogically innovative form. It has flourished in the University across the humanities disciplines, IT Services, the Bodleian Library, the Oxford Internet Institute, the Oxford e-Research Centre, and in and around Oxford’s museums and collections. Part of my job as Digital Humanities Champion will be to showcase Oxford’s achievements in this area, and to ensure that Oxford remains a leader in Digital Humanities.”
