The Lovelace Medal was established by the British Computer Society (BCS) in 1998. Ada Lovelace was a mathematician and scientist who worked with, and was an inspiration to, the computer pioneer Charles Babbage.

At the Lovelace Lecture 2010, this year’s winner, Yorick Wilks, gives a public lecture on his talk. His interests are artificial intelligence and the computer processing of language, knowledge and belief, especially as applied to the future of the Internet: the Semantic Web and the possibility of Companion-like interfaces.
