Keynote Lecture on Philosophy of Information

Professor Luciano Floridi delivers a keynote lecture on the philosophy of information. He opens by lamenting the slow pace at which machines execute more sophisticated attempts to pass the Turing test. Floridi, however, acknowledges that machines increasingly affect the way humans design their world. He cites several challenges currently facing society stemming from the surging dominance of machines: 1) the idea of replaceable agency – the social acceptability and legal constraints surrounding the replacement of workers; 2) the influenceable autonomy of robots over society; 3) the dependent delegation of tasks to machines, thus resulting in an increasing dependency on artificial intelligence. Floridi challenges the audience to think deeper, rather than faster, and design better in light of these developments.
