The vast array of consumer data now gathered, shared and traded provides extraordinary opportunities for service innovation and improvement, but also raises privacy concerns. Challenges are growing for individuals seeking to control what they share and with whom; as well as for the organisations tasked with keeping it secure.
This seminar will provide an overview of current policy developments in the data protection and privacy spheres.
Topics to include:
- How is data protection evolving in Europe from a technological and legal perspective?
- What will be the impact of unified GDPR legislation — will it help or hinder innovation?
- What are the pros and cons of a ‘right to be forgotten’?
- What are some of the practical considerations in giving people control over their data? (Eg: what does meaningful consent look like for internet of things? What is the notion of ‘privacy by design’?)
