In this talk, Ilan Manor explores how Israel brands itself online as the only democracy in the Middle East and a start up nation. Next, Manor evaluates how Israel brands Palestinian terrorists and how such branding complements the Israeli national narrative. Manor finally arrives at the conclusion that by branding Palestinian terrorists as ISIS terrorists, Israel depicts itself as a thriving democracy attacked not due to its polices but due to its liberal values.
This talk was recorded at the Oxford Extremism Research Network’s 2016 seminar series (www.oxern.com).
