Whom does the Internet Need More: Computer Scientists or Social Scientists?

Date & Time:

About

The establishment of new academic departments such as the Oxford Internet Institute or Harvard Law School’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society might suggest that research into the societal implications of technologies such as the Internet should only be led by social scientists, and that computer scientists might have less to offer in this field.

This seminar will address this perception of a supposed divide between social scientific and computer science approaches to study of the Internet and will ask what each has to offer, and to what extent a more collaborative vision is appropriate and possible within the disciplinary dynamics of the universities.
