The Science of the Web

About

The Web is, at the infrastructure level, an engineered space created via formally specified languages and protocols. However, as humans are involved in the actual creation of pages and using the links between them, their interactions form emergent patterns in the Web at a macroscopic scale. These human interactions are in turn, governed by social conventions, policies and laws.

This workshop will discuss how these different research agendas come together as we seek to understand and explore the Science of the Web. It is an inherently interdisciplinary field that attempts to come to an understanding of all these processes and brings together researchers from many different disciplines such as computer science, engineering, social science and the humanities.

In the workshop we will explore how best to effect the collaboration between researchers that will be required to achieve the research aims of this newly emerging field.
