In this talk, Dr Lulu Shi will examine the future of work automation. Research on the future of work has so far mainly focused on how technology can transform the labour market. Yet, unpaid domestic work takes up about half our total work time. Can we simply borrow the insights from previous research on the future of (paid) work to understand the future of unpaid work? After briefly outlining how paid and unpaid work have developed within distinct political economies, Shi will present findings from a Delphi survey with technology experts which has brought unpaid work into the discussion of the future of work automation.
This is a hybrid session so you can attend in person at 1 St Giles or register to join online.
