International measurements of internet penetration have advanced in recent years, but still tend to favor breadth over depth. This talk will start by discussing the benefits and limitations of publicly available information for internet penetration in Tanzania. The rest of the talk will detail our efforts to measure internet penetration and cell phone use on the ground in Tanzania as part of Facebook’s internet.org effort.
