Fairwork UK Ratings 2021 – report launch and Q&A

Date & Time:
11:00 - 12:00,
Tuesday 25 May, 2021

The Fairwork UK 2021 report evaluates the working conditions in 11 of the most popular digital labour platforms in the country (Uber, Deliveroo, Stuart, Bolt and Just Eat, etc.) against five global principles of fair work – Fair Pay, Fair Conditions, Fair Contracts, Fair Management and Fair Representation.

With the recent Supreme Court ruling on Uber and the numerous protests against the precarious pay and conditions of delivery riders, digital labour platforms in the UK are facing increased public pressure to recognise their obligations to their workers. In this context, the Fairwork UK ratings shine a light on the best and worst practices in the UK platform economy. Our findings show that poor working conditions are an active choice made by platforms and regulators rather than an inevitable outcome of technological change. The report also highlights the role that platforms, policymakers, consumers and unions can play in promoting fairer labour standards in the gig economy.

We would like to invite you to this one-hour-long webinar in which we will present the main findings of the report and discuss the labour conditions in the UK platform economy with a panel of distinguished experts in the field. During the session, there will be the opportunity to ask questions to the authors of the report.

This webinar is organised by the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford, in collaboration with the WZB Berlin Social Science Centre.
