Dr Rakoen Maertens is a behavioural scientist specialised in the psychology of misinformation and counter-disinformation strategies. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, receiving the CSAR Award for Applied Research, and is now the Juliana Cuyler Matthews Junior Research Fellow at New College, Oxford. His applied work includes collaborations with Google, Meta, the UN, the European Commission, and the UK Cabinet Office, with work published in leading journals such as Nature Communications and Behavior Research Methods
Next to his scientific work he holds an interest in European, British, and American policymaking regarding Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) and information sovereignty. Through his affiliations with the Oxford Internet Institute, as well as a Fellowship at the Shorenstein Center, Harvard Kennedy School, he is now seeking to translate his research into practical policy recommendations with an interdisciplinary angle. If you are a policymaker, practitioner, or a member of the University interested in discussing these topics, you can reach out to Dr Maertens using the details on this page.
