Dr Kevin Baum is a philosopher and computer scientist working on the ethics, governance, safety, and trustworthiness of advanced AI systems. He leads the Responsible AI and Machine Ethics (RAIME) group at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and serves on the executive board of CERTAIN, the Center for European Research in Trusted AI. His research develops the normative and technical foundations and regulatory conditions for keeping increasingly autonomous AI systems under meaningful human oversight — work he pursues at the OII with Johann Laux, including the operationalisation of human oversight under Article 14 of the EU AI Act. He is a member of the International Association for Safe and Ethical AI (IASEAI) and an active voice in AI policy and public debate.
