About
Joseph Nserat is a Recognised Student at the Oxford Internet Institute, supervised by Dr Bernie Hogan as part of the Researching Identities in Networks Group (RIING). He holds an MSc in Management from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany, and a Master of Business Research (MBR) from LMU Munich School of Management, where he is also pursuing his PhD.
His doctoral research examines transparency measures for audiovisual AI-generated content on digital platforms. Audiovisual AI-generated content, including AI-generated images, videos, and audio such as deepfakes, increasingly shapes trust in digital information and user behaviour on platforms such as X and Meta. Against the backdrop of emerging transparency requirements under the EU AI Act, his dissertation investigates the effectiveness, perception, and impact of platform-based transparency measures, with a particular focus on AI-labels and AI-literacy interventions.
Using a mixed-methods approach, his research combines qualitative and quantitative methods to examine users’ perceptions of platform transparency measures on AI to derive implications for the effective design of AI-labels and AI-literacy initiatives.
