About

This forum brings together experts from industry, government and academia to stimulate and inform future policy and research agendas on the topic of mobile communication. Whilst current research at the OII already takes account of the growing importance of mobile Internet access, there is a need to reflect on trends in this sector, the state of research, and our existing research agenda to ask whether and how this should be adapted to recognise the fast pace of innovations in mobile Internet delivery and access.

The questions we hope the forum might address include:

  • What are the most important emerging technological developments in the delivery of mobile communication and the Internet?

  • What sort of changes in Internet use would we expect when connectivity is a continuous unbroken experience?

  • What social, economic or legal implications might these changes bring?

  • How might we expect location-aware services and content to develop?

  • What can we learn from the experience of Internet access in developing countries where access via mobile phones has leapfrogged fixed line access?
