Questions around the impact of race, imperialism, and coloniality have become more urgent in Media, Culture and Communication and Internet studies in response to calls such as ‘decolonise the academy’ and ‘Black Lives Matter’. Unfortunately, the same has not been true about caste, even though caste affects a fifth of the world’s population. Critical Caste and Technology Studies offers a communication-, media-, and technology-based critique of contemporary caste narratives. This talk will make a case for academic recognition of CCTS and set out a road map for the research agenda.
