Understanding the potential of AI in lifelong learning: A critical perspective

Understanding the potential of AI in lifelong learning: A critical perspective

Overview

The increasing prevalence and use of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and other platforms that can be used for learning has led to increased focus on the potential of the Internet to support learning throughout life. In particular, significant attention has been placed on if and how the use of such platforms can improve life-chances for individuals after they have left formal education. However, there is as yet, little focus on the potential of artificial intelligence to personalise these informal learning opportunities for individual needs. This project will analyse the direction of travel of current AI-based education applications, utilising a critical education perspective, with a view to identifying the potential of such innovations to improve personalised learning opportunities for adults across the life course.
