Xiuli Wang is an associate professor in the School of New Media and the Director of the Center for Social Media Research at Peking University.
Her current research focuses on the use of social media and AI technology in relation to children and the elderly, as well as their broader impact on these demographics and society as a whole. She has paid particular attention to the role of smart speakers and social robots in family settings, investigating how these technologies shape communication patterns, family dynamics, and overall well-being, while also examining the potential risks associated with AI-driven interactions.
Her research extends beyond media and technology to include health communication and international communication. She has authored five books and published over 50 journal articles in both English and Chinese journals. Her recent books include Health Communication: Theory and Practice (Renmin University Press, 2022), China in the Eyes of the Japanese (Routledge, 2021), and Winning American Hearts and Minds: China’s Image-Building Efforts in the 21st Century (Springer, 2020).
She holds a doctoral degree in mass communication from the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University, a master’s degree in communication, and double bachelor’s degrees in economics and international relations, all from Peking University.
