About

Chukwuemeka Monyei is the Executive Director of Like a Palm Tree Foundation, where he leads research on child online safety and the risks of emerging technologies. His current research focuses on how extant legal frameworks for internet regulation and child rights affect child online safety in the Global South. 

In his role at Like a Palm Tree Foundation, Chukwuemeka led the organization’s team that worked with the telecom regulator in Nigeria, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), on the domestication of ITU’s Guidance on Child Online Protection. He has also provided expert advice on child online protection in Nigeria and technology regulation to the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC), Meta, ITU Africa, and several startups.

Chukwuemeka is also a director of Wise and Harmless Digital UK Limited, a cybersecurity company. He has written three books on child online safety, including an online safety text that was adopted for secondary school students.

Chukwuemeka is a qualified lawyer in Nigeria. Previously, he worked as an adjunct Lecturer at the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School. Prior to that, he was a researcher at the Sustainability Centre of Lagos Business School. Chukwuemeka is the founder of Open Law Innovation Network (OLIN), a law innovation nonprofit currently developing ‘Nigeria Law Switch’, a centralized and interoperable legal technology platform for the digitization of public law administration in Nigeria.
