Communication Power in the Network Society

Recorded:
23 Oct 2008

This lecture presents the major thesis of Professor Manuel Castells’ most recent work to be published in the book ‘Communication Power’. The book argues that power is ‘based on the control of communication and information’ and develops the theoretical and empirical foundations of the many aspects of this argument.

Manuel Castells’ work on power and communication builds on his trilogy on the information age, which established him as the seminal theorist of the ‘network society’, which marked a major departure from previous conceptions by Daniel Bell and others of an ‘information society’.
