About

Yana Breindl researches digital rights campaigning at the European level, particularly targeting internet and copyright regulations. Focusing on the interrelation of ICTs and society, she looks at how technologies are sites of power struggles for various social groups. Her dissertation investigated the campaigning techniques used by digital rights activists to influence EU policy-making. At OII, Yana Breindl focuses on the evolution of claims and narratives surrounding controversial internet legislations in the French, German, British and European policy-making processes.

Yana Breindl holds a BA and MA in Information and Communication Sciences from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium) and has published extensively on the political uses of the internet. She co-edited Nexus: New Intersections in Internet Research, a collaborative volume initiated during the Summer Doctoral Programme of the Oxford Internet Institute.
