Thomas is an OII DPhil student focused on self-presentation on the Chinese internet. He is interested in how social media users vary the roles they perform between audiences and platforms, and in how digital artifacts such as pictures and hyperlinks take on new meanings as they move between online spaces and situations.

Research interests

Chinese society, culture and internet use, micro-sociology, interaction ritual, role performance, guanxi and social networks, digital ethnography, natural language processing.
