Working closely with the Director and the Senior Executive Team, Douglas leads the Institute’s administration in implementing strategy, supporting teaching, research and policy engagement, and ensuring good governance and high-quality services for staff, students and visitors.
Douglas joined the OII in 2018 from the University’s Academic Administration Division, where he headed up the Proctors’ Office, a section focussed on internal scrutiny and compliance. Prior to joining the University in 2014, he was a senior administrator in the Scottish Parliamentary Service where he held various roles, most recently as head of secretariat for the Parliament’s Equal Opportunities Committee. During his career at the Parliament, he was responsible for supporting and shaping scrutiny of subjects ranging from equal marriage legislation, gender equality and discrimination against gypsy-traveller people, to business growth, health inequalities, telehealth and alcohol pricing, amongst others
A graduate in French with Music, Douglas is also an LRSM-qualified flautist.
