A seminar discussing how the Internet was used by civil society organisations in Nigeria to mobilise public pressure on their federal legislature to pass a Freedom of Information Act.

The talk aims to show how the Internet was used by civil society organisations in Nigeria to mobilise public pressure on their federal legislature to pass a Freedom of Information Act. This success followed four futile years trying to build a movement to lobby for its enactment through meetings, pamphleteering and the media. The seminar will also discuss the constraints on Internet access in Nigeria, and the opportunities and challenges encountered by civil society practitioners, as well as proposals to overcome these challenges and to build on the opportunities.
