The Oxford Internet Institute is excited to welcome Dr Michèle Finck from the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition for the OII Colloquia talk "Can Blockchains be regulated?". The event is followed by a short drinks reception.

Blockchains and other forms of Distributed Ledger Technology are the new word on the street. As much hype surrounds this new technology, many are claiming that it cannot and should not be regulated in light of its specific features. Taking a historical and law and innovation perspective my talk will address these claims. Looking back at early debates of Internet regulation I will highlight that despite significant challenges blockchain can be regulated and propose first guiding principles as to how this should be done.
